Resorts World Cruises Renames Star Scorpio to Star Voyager - New Cruise Era Begins

In a bold move that marks a new chapter in the world of cruise travel, Resorts World Cruises has announced the rebranding of its third cruise ship. Formerly known as Star Scorpio, the vessel will now sail as Star Voyager starting from March 26, 2025.

This exciting renaming initiative is part of a broader fleet expansion and upgrade strategy designed to offer passengers unparalleled cruising experiences throughout Southeast Asia.

A Brief History: From Dawn Princess to Star Voyager

Originally built in 1997 by Italy’s renowned shipbuilder Fincantieri, the vessel began its life as Dawn Princess under Princess Cruises. Later, she was transferred to P&O Cruises Australia and rebranded as Pacific Explorer, catering to the Australian market with her luxurious amenities and versatile itineraries.

In December 2024, Resorts World Cruises acquired the ship, and after a significant refurbishment—reportedly an investment of around $50 million—the transformation is complete. Now reborn as Star Voyager, the ship symbolizes the dawn of a new era in modern cruising under the Resorts World Cruises banner.

Why the Renaming?

The renaming from Star Scorpio to Star Voyager is more than just a cosmetic change—it’s a strategic rebranding that reflects the cruise line’s vision for the future.

The name "Voyager" evokes images of exploration, adventure, and discovery, perfectly aligning with the brand’s commitment to offering innovative and immersive travel experiences. With updated onboard facilities, a refreshed aesthetic, and new itineraries, Star Voyager is set to captivate both seasoned cruisers and first-time adventurers alike.

Exciting New Itineraries Across Southeast Asia

Starting March 26, 2025, Star Voyager will operate out of Singapore, its primary homeport, and will extend its reach with dual homeports in key regional cities such as Jakarta, Melaka, Bangkok, and Ho Chi Minh City. This strategic deployment not only enhances passenger convenience but also taps into the growing demand for diversified cruise experiences in Southeast Asia.

Singapore Departures

From the Singapore Cruise Centre Terminal, Star Voyager will offer:

  • 10 roundtrip sailings for six-day/5-night Melaka-Jakarta cruises, with departures scheduled between March 26 and April 15, as well as from June 11 to July 1.
  • 5 roundtrip sailings for six-day/5-night Bangkok-Ko Samui cruises between April 20 and May 10.
  • 3 roundtrip sailings for five-day/4-night Ko Samui-Pulau Redang cruises from May 15 to 23.
  • 5 roundtrip sailings for four-day/3-night Melaka-Medan cruises from May 27 to June 8.
  • 4 roundtrip sailings for six-day/5-night Melaka-Ho Chi Minh cruises from July 6 to 21.

Departures from Other Homeports

  • Jakarta: Passengers can board from Jakarta via Tanjong Priok Port. Two departure windows—from March 29 to April 13 and June 14 to 29—will offer a total of eight roundtrip cruises.
  • Bangkok: Departing from Laem Chabang Port, four roundtrip sailings for six-day/5-night Ko Samui-Singapore cruises are available between April 22 and May 7.
  • Melaka: Additional sailings from the ICQS Cruise Terminal will serve families and groups during the Malaysian school holidays.
  • Ho Chi Minh City: In a historic first, Star Voyager will be the first international cruise ship to establish a homeport in Ho Chi Minh City (via Phu My Port), offering four roundtrip sailings from July 9 to 24.

These itineraries are carefully planned to coincide with local school holiday periods, maximizing convenience for families and travel groups while providing a rich tapestry of destinations in the region—from the cultural hubs of Jakarta and Bangkok to the tropical allure of Ko Samui and Pulau Redang.

The Market Impact and Future Outlook

The renaming and redeployment of Star Voyager underscore Resorts World Cruises’ strategic focus on the dynamic Southeast Asian market. By leveraging key ports in Singapore, Jakarta, Melaka, Bangkok, and Ho Chi Minh City, the cruise line is positioning itself to meet the rising demand for high-quality, multi-destination itineraries in the region.

For travelers, this means increased flexibility, more options to explore new and familiar destinations, and an elevated onboard experience with modernized amenities. For the cruise industry, it signals a trend towards adaptive branding and regional expansion that could redefine travel experiences in the post-pandemic era.

Onboard Experience and Upgrades

The refurbishment and rebranding have not only resulted in a new name but also a host of upgrades designed to enhance the overall guest experience. Star Voyager will feature:

  • Contemporary interior design with luxurious cabins and public spaces.
  • Enhanced dining options featuring a variety of international cuisines.
  • State-of-the-art recreational facilities, including multiple swimming pools, spas, and entertainment zones.
  • Innovative technology solutions to improve passenger convenience, from streamlined check-in processes to interactive onboard apps.

These improvements are expected to set a new benchmark for comfort and luxury in the mid-sized cruise ship segment, ensuring that every voyage is not just a trip, but a memorable journey.
